Dr. Ramanathan Archuna’s candid confession about decades of romantic relationships, cultural barriers, and his unexpected marriage has shocked the public and raised discussion across Sri Lanka.
Member of Parliament Dr. Ramanathan Archuna says he has had nearly fifty romantic relationships throughout his life, a revelation that has drawn widespread attention. Speaking to a weekend newspaper, he openly described the long series of relationships that shaped his youth and early adulthood. He said, “I have had about forty or fifty love affairs,” adding that the experience began during his A level years when he first met a girlfriend. After that, he says he entered into five or six more relationships.
During his time in the University of Peradeniya, Archuna says he fell in love with a Sinhala girl, but that relationship eventually came to an end. Later, while in Jaffna, he had another relationship with a Sinhala girl, but that too came to an end after some time. He explained that he had loved many Sinhala girls over the years, saying his life took a different turn when he eventually married a Sinhala woman who is also a doctor. He said she is from a lower caste than him, a detail he openly acknowledged.
Archuna further added that he would not prefer to reveal the name of his wife because of security issues. The couple is now blessed with an eleven-year-old son and keeps their family life private despite all the public attention.
