A Colombo hidden nightclub raid uncovered a concealed entrance behind a snack rack and liquor allegedly being sold without authorisation.
COLOMBO – Sri Lanka’s Excise Department has raided an underground nightclub allegedly operating behind a concealed entrance inside a food outlet in Colombo’s Kompanna Vidiya area.
Excise officers conducted the raid on September 21 after receiving a tip-off through the Superintendent’s Office of the Bureau of Excise Special Operations Narcotic Unit in Colombo.
Investigators said the premises had been arranged to resemble an ordinary food and beverage outlet selling snacks, including murukku.
Officers discovered the concealed entrance after moving a display rack that had been positioned in front of the doorway leading to the nightclub.
Preliminary inquiries indicated that the establishment catered to regular customers and was allegedly selling foreign liquor without the required authorisation.
A quantity of liquor bottles suspected of having been kept for unauthorised sale was seized during the operation.
Authorities are expected to continue inquiries into the operation of the establishment and any violations of excise regulations connected to the premises.
