Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna’s (SLPP) National Organizer, Namal Rajapaksa, has announced his willingness to support the proposal by the National People’s Force, led by Anura Kumara Dissanayake, to abolish the executive presidency and reform the electoral system.
Rajapaksa noted that while every president since 1994 has promised to abolish the executive presidency, none have delivered on this commitment. He stressed that now is the ideal time to follow through on this pledge and urged swift action.
“If there is genuine intent to abolish the executive presidency, the best time is now,” Rajapaksa stated, adding that both he and his party are ready to offer their full backing for these reforms.
