President Ranil Wickramesinghe has taken direct control of three key ministerial portfolios, as announced in a special gazette on August 14. The portfolios of Tourism and Land, Sports and Youth Affairs, and Labor and Foreign Employment are now under the President’s purview.
The change follows the resignation of former ministers Manusha Nanayakkara and Harin Fernando, who previously held these positions. Their departure left the roles vacant, prompting the President to assume oversight of these ministries.
In his new role, President Wickramesinghe will oversee the Tourism, Sports and Land ministry, which was formerly managed by Fernando. Additionally, he will handle the Labour and Foreign Employement , previously overseen by Nanayakkara,
The gazette announcement formalizes this transition and reflects the current administrative adjustments in the government following these changes in ministerial positions.
