Dilith Jayaweera, the presidential candidate from the Sarvajana Balaya alliance and a prominent entrepreneur, claims to have a unique strategic plan that distinguishes him from other contenders in the upcoming election. Speaking at a gathering of scholars and entrepreneurs at the Mawbima Janatha Party’s head office on the 18th, Jayaweera criticized his rivals while outlining his vision for Sri Lanka’s future.
“There is now a presidential election. There is Mr. Sajith Premadasa, Mr. Ranil Wickremesinghe, and Mr. Anura Kumara Dissanayake. Let’s also include Namal Rajapaksa. All of these individuals have served as cabinet ministers,” he said. Jayaweera pointed out that Anura Kumara Dissanayake, in particular, held significant power as a former Minister of Agriculture, and Namal Rajapaksa was given control of five ministries. Despite their previous influence, Jayaweera argues that none of them have brought about the substantial change that the country needs.
Criticizing their campaign promises, he remarked, “Mr. Ranil Wickremesinghe talks about gas shortages, Mr. Sajith Premadasa speaks of an education reform that’s not even in his program, and Anura Kumara promises to reduce fuel prices and VAT on books. Do we need a president to make such promises?”
Jayaweera emphasized the need for a shift away from what he sees as the repetitive and unfulfilled promises of traditional politicians. He introduced his strategic plan as a comprehensive solution that includes the establishment of a National Strategic Planning Authority. This central authority, according to Jayaweera, would guide national priorities and objectives with a clear strategic timeline, ensuring that ministers remain accountable and focused on long-term goals rather than short-term gains.
“This authority is crucial to prevent ministers from playing political games. We are committed to proposing innovative concepts that truly address the needs of the nation, rather than deceiving people with outdated practices,” he stated.
Jayaweera’s bold proposals and criticism of his opponents highlight his determination to position himself as a candidate who offers real change, driven by a well-defined strategy rather than empty promises.
