(COLOMBO) – A Sri Lankan Inspector of Police and a constable were arrested along with one kilogram of heroin in Piliyandala on the outskirts of the commercial capital of Colombo, police said on Wednesday.
Police said the suspects were arrested while arriving at a car parking lot of a supermarket in Piliyandala.
The arrested officers are reportedly attached to the Intelligence Unit of a Special Task Force camp situated nearby.
The 35-year-old Inspector was arrested on charges of aiding drug trafficking, while the constable was charged with the possession of heroin.
Dozens of policemen of different ranks have been arrested over the past several months on drug related charges.
The bulk of policemen arrested for narcotic related offences are those attached with the anti-narcotic wing of the Police Department.
