(COLOMBO) – The world’s longest stamp, measuring 205 mm symbolizing the historic Sri Dalada Perahera in Kandy, was released by Sri Lanka’s Postal Department, on Tuesday, the President’s Media Division (PMD) said.
According to the PMD, the stamp was presented to President Ranil Wickremesinghe.
The Dalada Perahera held in Sri Lanka’s hill capital of Kandy is a colourful pageant depicting the days of the country’s ancient monarchy that attracts thousands of both locals and foreigners.
A Buddhist sacred relic containing the tooth of the Buddha is also paraded on a casket on the back of a decorated elephant.
The pageant also involves traditional drummers, dancers etc and is held for over a period of three days in August each year.
