Colombo, Sri Lanka – The Governor of the Central Bank of Sri Lanka, Dr. Nandalal Weerasinghe, has been awarded an esteemed “A” grade in Global Finance’s 2024 Central Banker Report Cards, placing him among the world’s most accomplished central bank governors.
This prestigious recognition highlights Dr. Weerasinghe’s exceptional leadership and strategic capabilities in navigating Sri Lanka’s economy through a period of significant global and local challenges. His top-tier grade reflects his success in critical areas such as inflation management, economic growth, currency stability, and interest rate control.
Global Finance’s annual Central Banker Report Cards evaluate the performance of central bank governors worldwide, grading them on a scale from “A” to “F” based on their effectiveness in key economic areas. Dr. Weerasinghe’s “A” grade underscores his dedication to fostering economic resilience and stability in Sri Lanka.
“The ‘A’ grade is a testament to Dr. Weerasinghe’s outstanding performance, particularly during a time when effective economic policies are crucial for maintaining stability,” the report stated. His decisive actions and well-crafted policies have played a pivotal role in stabilizing Sri Lanka’s economy during turbulent times, earning him this top accolade.
Dr. Weerasinghe joins a select group of central bankers who have been recognized with an “A” grade, placing him in the company of other esteemed leaders such as Roberto Campos Neto of Brazil, Rosanna Costa of Chile, Harvesh Kumar Seegolam of Mauritius, and Lesetja Kganyago of South Africa.
