(COLOMBO) – The Sri Lankan Customs on Thursday busted a massive Hashish smuggling racket with the recovery of some 30 kilograms of the drug that had arrived by post from a location in Italy, officials said.
They estimated that the drug was worth a street value of an estimated Rs. 212 million.
Officials with the Customs Revenue Task Force (RTF) on suspicion searched a package that had arrived at a courier service in Colombo and found over 30 kilos of Hashish in it.
Customs Spokesman Additional Director General Seevali Arukgoda said the narcotics parcel had been consigned to an address in the Matugama area south of Sri Lanka.
The seized drugs along with a suspect had been handed over to the Police Narcotic Bureau (PNB) for further investigations.
