Sri Lanka’s middle-order batter Dinesh Chandimal is injured.
While batting in the 2nd innings, he received a nasty blow from Mark Wood’s thunderous delivery.
“Not sure whether he would be able to bat again. He has been sent for an X-ray at the hospital,” one of the sources confirmed over the telephone from the ground.
In the 18th over, Mark Wood’s delivery, speeding at 149 kmph, hit his right thumb, and the physio, who ran immediately to the wicket, found it to be swollen.
Chandimal is playing as the designated wicketkeeper in this Test.
Should he be unfit to take further part in the match, he will be allowed to have a substitute for the job.
Incidentally, Chandimal sustained this injury at the time when his wife, Ishika, was probably cutting her birthday cake.
Chandimal married his longtime partner, Ishika Jayasekara, on May 1, 2015, in Colombo.
Ishika Jayasekara, the wife of Sri Lankan cricketer Dinesh Chandimal, is a notable figure in her own right, known for her elegance, supportive nature, and contributions to her family and society. Although she prefers to stay away from the limelight, her presence and influence in Chandimal’s life are undeniable.
