Namal Rajapaksa, the presidential candidate of the SLPP , emphasized his commitment to curbing fraud and corruption in Sri Lanka during a discussion organized with several youth organizations on August 23. The event, which allowed participants to engage with Rajapaksa through social media, provided a platform for him to outline his vision for a more transparent and efficient government.
Rajapaksa, who is also a prominent figure in Sri Lanka’s political landscape, made it clear that his administration would prioritize the integration of technology to minimize opportunities for corruption. He stated, “By connecting everything to technology and reducing human contact, we can reduce fraud and corruption. We can do it within 3 years.”
Addressing the issue of financial transparency, Rajapaksa highlighted the problem of transactions occurring outside the formal banking system, which often leads to untraceable financial activities and contributes to economic inefficiencies. He pledged that under his leadership, the government would work to bring these transactions into the banking system, ensuring greater oversight and accountability.
Rajapaksa also took the opportunity to address concerns about internal party dynamics, specifically regarding the Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP). He assured that there would be no further “platoon transfers” from the SLPP, signaling a focus on stability and consistent leadership within his party.
This discussion marks a key moment in Rajapaksa’s presidential campaign, as he positions himself as a candidate who is determined to modernize Sri Lanka’s governance and tackle corruption head-on through the use of technology and financial reforms.
