In a bid to secure victory in the upcoming presidential election, Dilith Jayaweera, the candidate from Sarwajana Balaya, has launched a grassroots campaign titled “Star Flying Home” starting today (24th August). The campaign aims to cover 14,022 rural service areas across Sri Lanka, focusing on direct engagement with voters rather than traditional rallies.
This weekend, the campaign will focus on 2,000 villages across the island, with the goal of reaching out to every household. Jayaweera emphasized the importance of connecting with the people on a personal level, stating that the campaign’s approach is to foster a sense of brotherhood and mutual understanding in the community, rather than spending large sums on public gatherings.
Anuradha Yahampath, a member of the executive committee of Sarwajana Balay, along with other key figures, participated in the event. Jayaweera reiterated that the campaign is about initiating a dialogue with the people and sharing the strategic programs and policies that his party stands for through distributed leaflets.
The ‘Homecoming Star’ initiative represents a move away from conventional electioneering towards a more personal and community-driven approach, reflecting Jayaweera’s commitment to engaging directly with the electorate at the grassroots level.
