Rawalpindi, Pakistan — The International Cricket Council (ICC) has imposed a fine on Bangladesh’s Shakib Al Hasan for his conduct during the first Test between Bangladesh and Pakistan. In an incident that occurred during the 33rd over of Pakistan’s second innings, Shakib, while preparing to bowl, directed the ball towards Mohammad Rizwan, who was not ready to play. The ball nearly struck Rizwan in the face. As a result, Shakib has been fined 10% of his match fee for this level one offense under the ICC’s code of conduct.
In addition to the individual fine, both teams have faced penalties related to their bowling speeds. The ICC has reduced bonus points for both Pakistan and Bangladesh due to their failure to maintain the required bowling speed. Pakistan’s bowling fell short by six runs, leading to a deduction of six runs, while Bangladesh’s bowling was three runs short, resulting in a three-run deduction.
As a result of these penalties, Pakistan has dropped to 8th place in the 2023-25 Test World Championship standings, while Bangladesh has fallen to 7th place. Prior to these deductions, Bangladesh was ranked 5th in the championship.
Furthermore, the ICC has fined the Pakistan team 30% of their match fee and the Bangladesh team 15% of their match fee for the slow over-rate. These measures reflect the ICC’s ongoing efforts to enforce adherence to game regulations and maintain the integrity of the Test World Championship.
