The Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB) is set to unveil its presidential election manifesto on Thursday, August 29, 2024. According to SJB Senior Vice President Sujeewa Senasinghe, the policy statement has been finalized and is ready for presentation.
At a rally in Trincomalee, SJB’s Presidential candidate and Leader of the Opposition, Sajith Premadasa, outlined key components of his governance vision, emphasizing the implementation of maximum power devolution within a unified Sri Lanka. Premadasa pledged that under an SJB government, the devolution of power would be a central policy, ensuring that power is effectively transferred to the people.
Premadasa also announced plans to hold an international donor conference focused on the development of the Northern and Eastern regions, aimed at accelerating growth and progress in these historically underserved areas.
In his address, Premadasa criticized the central government’s tendency to overreach into areas designated for provincial councils and vowed to end this practice. He committed to holding provincial council elections soon after securing the presidency and assured that his administration would enhance the efficiency of the provincial council system, particularly to support development in the North and East.
