Jay Shah, the current secretary of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), is set to assume the role of chairman of the International Cricket Council (ICC) in December 2024. Shah emerged as the sole nominee for the position, following the decision of incumbent chairman Greg Barclay not to seek a third consecutive term.
At 35 years old, Shah will succeed Barclay, who announced on August 20 that he would step down at the end of his term in November. Shah, who has been serving as BCCI secretary since 2019, will leave his position at the BCCI’s Annual General Meeting, which is scheduled for either late September or October.
Currently, Shah leads the ICC’s Finance and Commercial Affairs (F&CA) sub-committee, a role he has held since 2022. His unopposed election as ICC chairman reflects his significant influence and leadership within the cricketing world. Shah expressed his gratitude, stating, “I am humbled by the nomination as the Chair of the International Cricket Council.”
Shah will officially begin his tenure as ICC chairman on December 1, 2024.
