Wellawaya, August 29, 2024 — Sajith Premadasa, the presidential candidate for Samagi Jana Balavega, has firmly stated that the sale of government institutions will be completely halted if he is elected. Speaking at a public rally in Wellawaya, Premadasa emphasized his commitment to making government institutions more efficient and profitable, rather than selling them off.
“Under our government, the culture of auctioning off national resources will come to an end,” Premadasa declared. He highlighted the importance of preserving government institutions and ensuring they serve the welfare of the people, rather than becoming opportunities for exploitation.
Addressing the ongoing human-elephant conflict in the Wellawaya region, Premadasa underscored the need for a national land use plan. “The first thing that needs to be done is to implement a national land use plan. No one has done it. By doing so, we aim to reduce conflicts between wild elephants and humans, as well as other conflicts between animals and humans,” he stated.
Premadasa also mentioned the significance of local industries, pointing out that over 30,000 people are employed in farming families linked to the Palwatta and Sevanagala sugar factories. “We are putting a stop sign to the culture of selling these institutions to loot and working to implement this national resource for your welfare,” he asserted.
Premadasa’s pledge marks a clear stance against privatization, with a focus on utilizing national resources for the benefit of the public, while addressing pressing environmental and social issues.
