(COLOMBO) – A maverick Sri Lanka who has slighted the Bench fell unconscious while his case was being heard inside the court house.
Attorney-at-Law W. D. Dharamasiri Karunaratne has been accused of breaching the ethics of the legal profession after on an earlier court appearance he had destroyed a document taken from the courts safe without prior permission.
He fell while screaming at the Bench and was subsequently removed by prison officials and ordered to be further remanded until October 30.
Meanwhile in a related case an overseas travel ban was issued on a woman lawyer who allegedly chewed and swallowed a vital document taken from the court safe.
She was also accused of contempt of court for meeting clients and collecting fees despite being suspended from practicing.
The woman lawyer practices at the Kekirawa court located some 181 kilometers away from Sri Lanka’s commercial capital of Colombo.
