Anura Kumara Dissanayake, the presidential candidate representing the National People’s Power (NPP), has promised to introduce a program that will ensure public servants receive a living wage increase every six months. Speaking at a conference in Colombo, Dissanayake emphasized his commitment to addressing the concerns of public sector employees.
He highlighted several key issues, including the challenges faced by pensioners since 2016. Dissanayake assured that his administration would work to restore the pension system, ensuring it operates smoothly and without complications.
Furthermore, Dissanayake addressed the concerns regarding recruitment and promotions within the public sector. He pledged to eliminate political interference in these processes, ensuring that promotions and transfers are conducted fairly and based on merit.
“A living wage should be given,” Dissanayake stated, emphasizing that it is the government’s responsibility to provide a fair salary that reflects the cost of living. He criticized the existing approach where some employees are not adequately compensated for their work, asserting that his government would rectify this by implementing a calculated salary adjustment every six months.
Dissanayake also dismissed allegations that his manifesto contains unrealistic promises, asserting that his proposals are well-planned and feasible. He urged the public not to be swayed by false claims and reiterated his commitment to improving the welfare of public servants through fair and transparent policies.
