Over the next four years, Karunaratne will be pursuing a degree in sports training and management at Tulane University in New Orleans, Louisiana, having received a prestigious full scholarship for her studies.
Karunaratne will join the Tulane Green Wave athletic team, which is part of the American Athletic Association and competes in major league tournaments.
