Dilith Jayaweera, the presidential candidate of the ‘Sarvajana Balaya’ alliance, has defended his party’s national strategic plan, asserting that it is built on practical, scientifically-backed proposals rather than mere promises. His remarks came during an event organized by the “Piripun Deshayak” organization in Sri Lanka’s Southern Province.
At the event, which was focused on the 2025-2040 Development Strategy Framework for Sri Lanka, Jayaweera outlined the core elements of his strategic plan. He emphasized that the plan is designed to deliver tangible benefits and results within a specified timeline. One of the central goals of the plan is to enable households to earn at least Rs 100,000, with Jayaweera providing details on how this will be achieved and the expected timeframe for these outcomes. He stressed that the plan is not merely aspirational but includes concrete steps for its implementation.
Additionally, the plan addresses the issue of Sri Lankans seeking better opportunities abroad by proposing strategic changes aimed at improving local income and employment prospects. As part of his proposal, Jayaweera has included provisions for tax exemptions on the purchase of the first vehicle for young people, a measure intended to stimulate local economic activity and support youth aspirations.
Another key aspect of the strategic plan is its focus on empowering Sri Lankan women. Jayaweera highlighted that the plan includes initiatives to enhance entrepreneurial opportunities for women, aiming to support and elevate their roles in business and economic development.
In a subsequent public rally titled “Dilith Gamata” held in Kamburupitiya, Jayaweera elaborated on his personal motivation for running in the presidential election. He framed his candidacy as a commitment to addressing the country’s challenges based on his experiences and contributions as a taxpayer.
Jayaweera’s statements reflect his belief that the ‘Sarvajana Balaya’ alliance’s approach is grounded in logical, actionable plans rather than political promises. His campaign seeks to present a detailed, realistic vision for Sri Lanka’s future, focusing on economic growth and development.
As the presidential election approaches, the effectiveness and public reception of the ‘Sarvajana Balaya’ plan will be closely monitored. Jayaweera’s ability to translate these plans into tangible results will be a crucial factor in determining his electoral success.
