President Ranil Wickremesinghe, addressing the 73rd anniversary celebration of the Sri Lanka Freedom Party, commented on the unsuccessful attempt by Samagi Jana Balavega (SJB) to attract Tamil votes away from him in the upcoming presidential election. Wickremesinghe, who is running as an independent candidate, accused SJB of failing in its bid to gain support from Tamil voters.
In his speech, Wickremesinghe emphasized his administration’s achievements in stabilizing Sri Lanka’s economy and ensuring national stability amidst various challenges. He defended his record, asserting that while his government accepted both praise and criticism, it was essential for the country to remain united and focused on its recovery and progress.
The President criticized his opponents, Anura Kumara Dissanayake and Sajith Premadasa, for allegedly avoiding responsibility and failing to contribute to the country’s stability. He highlighted the importance of his leadership in salvaging the nation from economic turmoil and maintaining democratic governance.
Wickremesinghe’s comments reflect his determination to consolidate support and assert his role in guiding Sri Lanka through a period of economic and political recovery.
