Harini Amarasuriya, a member of Parliament from the National People’s Force (NPP), has revealed the party’s intention to dissolve Parliament on September 22, leveraging the constitutional authority vested in the President. Amarasuriya criticized the current administration as corrupt and stated that there is no reason to continue associating with them.
According to Amarasuriya, NPP leader Anura Kumara Dissanayake will make the crucial decision on that date, with the party already prepared with necessary programs. She assured that the current Cabinet and Prime Minister will be immediately removed under a National People’s Power presidency.
Amarasuriya dismissed the idea of a caretaker government, labeling it as an attempt to create further uncertainty. She also took aim at President Ranil Wickremesinghe’s recent statements, questioning his capability to appoint a cabinet that adheres to ethical and moral standards. Amarasuriya criticized Wickremesinghe’s focus on “Theravada economics” and called for a cabinet that follows the five precepts, emphasizing the need for true ethical governance.
