Ilankei Tamil Arasu Katchi (ITAK) senior leader Mavei Senadhiraja has clarified that the party has not officially endorsed opposition leader Sajith Premadasa for the upcoming presidential election. He stated that the recent announcement of support for Premadasa was made solely by MP MA Sumanthiran and does not represent an official stance of ITAK.
Senadhiraja emphasized that key party leaders, including MPs Sivagnanam Sreedaran and Charles Nirmalanathan, as well as senior members like S. Yogeswaran and G. Sreesan, were not present at the meeting where this decision was reportedly made. This indicates that any support attributed to ITAK for Premadasa lacks formal backing from the party’s leadership.
