President Ranil Wickremesinghe has asserted that voting for Sajith Premadasa in the upcoming presidential election is essentially a vote for Anura Kumara Dissanayake. He made this statement during the ‘Puluwan Sri Lanka’ rally held at the Kekirawa Public Stadium on September 1, 2024.
Wickremesinghe highlighted that Sajith Premadasa and Anura Kumara Dissanayake, who were perceived to have fled from the economic crisis, now have the chance to contest the presidential election due to the economic stability achieved under his leadership. He credited this stability to his administration and criticized both candidates as lacking the capability to address the country’s challenges effectively.
The President urged UNP members to support his policies and not betray the party’s principles. He emphasized the need for a new government grounded in past experiences to tackle future challenges, and he framed his potential victory as a triumph for the entire nation.
Wickremesinghe warned that the proposed drastic changes by Premadasa and Dissanayake would be akin to setting the country’s future on fire, underscoring his belief that his leadership represents a more stable and secure path forward.
