National People’s Power (NPP) presidential candidate Anura Kumara Dissanayake has stressed the urgent need for “good politics” in Sri Lanka, highlighting the public’s growing disillusionment with the current political system. Speaking at a public rally in Badulla, Dissanayake pointed out that social media has played a significant role in exposing the negative aspects of politics, leading to widespread rejection of politicians and the political system.
“Decades ago, Members of Parliament were respected, but with the advent of social media platforms like Facebook, the public has become increasingly aware of the unsavory behavior of some politicians. This visibility has led to a deepening distaste for politics and politicians,” Dissanayake explained.
He warned against complete disengagement from politics, emphasizing that political guidance is essential for the country’s development. “Rejecting bad politics is not enough; we must replace it with good politics. The National People’s Power is committed to bringing about this transformation, creating a political environment that is ethical and serves the people,” Dissanayake added.
He called on the public to remain engaged in the political process, despite their frustrations, as a means of ensuring the country moves towards a more just and accountable governance.
