Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP) presidential candidate Namal Rajapaksa has pledged to implement a comprehensive program aimed at bolstering the economy of the country’s farmers. Speaking at a public rally in Kalawana, Rajapaksa emphasized that his government’s policies would prioritize the welfare of farmers, fishermen, and local entrepreneurs, rather than catering to external business interests.
“Our policies are designed to uplift the livelihoods of our farmers, fishermen, and entrepreneurs. We are committed to ensuring that the economic benefits reach those who work the land and the sea,” Rajapaksa stated.
He criticized the previous administration for drastically reducing the prices of agricultural products such as leaves and pepper, and he praised the government led by Gotabaya Rajapaksa for restoring fair prices for these commodities. “The Gotabaya government brought back strong prices for leaves and pepper, reflecting our commitment to the local economy,” he added.
Rajapaksa made it clear that his administration would not prioritize the interests of re-exporters or foreign businesses but would focus on strengthening the economic foundation of Sri Lankan farmers. “Our goal is to enhance the economy of those who toil on this land and contribute to its prosperity,” he concluded.
