Maharagama – The Apeksha Hospital in Maharagama has officially opened its new paediatric ward complex, a significant addition to its facilities aimed at treating children suffering from cancer. The four-story complex, built with donations from devotees of the Ruhunu Maha Kataragama Dewalaya and the support of the Sri Lanka Air Force (SLAF) through their ‘Husma’ project, was inaugurated today (September 3).
Constructed within a span of 10 months, the project involved the contribution of armed forces personnel and cost approximately Rs. 160 million, with an additional Rs. 50 million allocated for equipment. The state-of-the-art facility can accommodate 70 inpatient children, offering much-needed care for paediatric oncology patients in Sri Lanka.
The opening ceremony saw the presence of several dignitaries, including Air Marshal Udeni Rajapaksa representing the SLAF Commander, the Secretary to the Ministry of Health Dr. Palitha Mahipala, Apeksha Hospital Director Dr. Aruna Jayasekara, and the Basnayaka Nilame of Ruhunu Kataragama Maha Devalaya Dishan Gunasekara, among other guests.
This new ward complex is expected to significantly enhance the hospital’s capacity to provide specialized care, making a positive impact on the lives of young cancer patients across the country.
