Colombo – Sarvajana Power Party’s presidential candidate, entrepreneur Dilith Jayaweera, has called for an end to the political party culture in Sri Lanka, which he claims is closely linked to the black economy. He made these remarks during a meeting with a group of government employees on September 3.
During the meeting, members of the Management Service Officers Association, which comprises 49,000 approved staff in the public service and provincial public service, engaged in discussions with Jayaweera at the Sarvajana Power Party office in Colombo.
Jayaweera emphasized that the black economy in Sri Lanka is four times the size of the formal economy, which he believes is a major reason why wages cannot be increased. He criticized the role of political parties in perpetuating this shadow economy and pointed out that a significant portion of the population remains undecided in the upcoming election.
Later that afternoon, Jayaweera also attended the opening of the Universal Power Party’s election operations office in Battaramulla, where he reiterated his message. He expressed concern over the plight of civil servants, who he said are often misled by numerous promises. He urged them to think critically and assured them that his party offers the change they have been waiting for.
