In a peculiar turn of events, 25 large-scale quarrymen gathered at a star hotel in Kandy yesterday (03rd) for a special discussion with several leaders, including Lalkantha. However, the meeting took an unexpected twist when officials from the Kandy election office swooped in and stopped the serving of food after discovering plans to provide lunch.
According to reports from the Mawbima newspaper, election officials informed the delegation from the National People’s Force and the hotel management that hosting such a meal while an election is ongoing was inappropriate. The lunch was buffet-style, with foreign tourists also participating in the meal, but no steps were taken to seal the food due to this mixed crowd.
The meeting, which brought together major businessmen from the island’s quarrying industry, was halted at the buffet table, leaving Lalkantha and his fellow attendees without their anticipated lunch.
