Independent presidential candidate Ranil Wickramasinghe has confidently claimed that his administration has managed to stabilize the Sri Lankan rupee and temporarily address the economic crisis through strategic decisions. Speaking at a public meeting in Aheliyagoda, Wickramasinghe emphasized the necessity of a formal economic plan for long-term success.
He recounted the initial struggles of taking over the government and making tough choices, asserting that these actions were crucial in averting a situation akin to Greece’s economic woes. According to Wickramasinghe, the rupee has been strengthened, and the economy has shown signs of improvement, with 2023 promising greater prosperity.
Wickramasinghe highlighted the subsidies introduced in 2024 and assured that his government is committed to further economic enhancement. Despite the progress, he stressed that the journey is ongoing, and sustained success depends on continued planning and effort.
