Tamil National Alliance (TNA) MP M.A. Sumanthiran has called out National People’s Power (NPP) leader Anura Dissanayake for sending mixed signals about the 13th constitutional amendment. According to Sumanthiran, Dissanayake told northern media that he would fully implement the 13th amendment, but conveniently backtracked when speaking to the southern audience.
Sumanthiran emphasized that Dissanayake’s ambiguity over the amendment left the TNA no choice but to withdraw support for his presidential bid. Instead, the party has thrown its weight behind opposition leader Sajith Premadasa, who has reportedly agreed to implement the amendment in full.
Sumanthiran shared these remarks during a program aired on Sirasa, highlighting the importance of clear and consistent commitments on such significant issues.
