The Department of Immigration and Emigration has announced the imminent arrival of a new batch of foreign passports, which will be equipped with advanced security features to address the growing backlog. A total of 50 lakh new passports have been ordered, with the first shipment of 50,000 passports expected to arrive by the 15th of next month.
This move comes as the department faces a significant challenge in managing the high demand for foreign passports, with the daily issuance currently limited to just 1,000 due to supply shortages. The department has been under pressure as long queues and delays have frustrated many applicants.
Officials are optimistic that the incoming stock will ease these issues and expedite the processing of passport applications. However, given the current limitations, it might take some time before the entire backlog is cleared.
Despite this, the department assures the public that the new passports will enhance security and prevent forgery, and they are committed to resolving the passport crisis as quickly as possible.
