At a rally in Warakapola, presidential candidate Namal Rajapaksa of the Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna invoked the nostalgia of the Mahinda Rajapaksa era, pledging to enhance public servant salaries in line with inflation.
Rajapaksa praised the past administration’s contributions to strengthening the public service, contrasting it with current election promises he deems unworthy of trust. He emphasized the need for a formal program to improve public service efficiency and integrate technology to better serve the people.
“While many candidates make grand promises at election time, we are committed to increasing government employee salaries in proportion to inflation, devoid of political interference,” Rajapaksa stated. “Our approach is rooted in strengthening trade unions and ensuring that public service quality improves through genuine and practical measures, not empty rhetoric.”
