(COLOMBO) – A truck containing a herd of 15 cattle for slaughter being transported without a license was nabbed by police in Southern Sri Lanka earlier this week.
The truck was forced to stop after a 40 kilometre chase by a police patrol in the southern town of Hakmana located some 190 kilometers away from the commercial capital of Colombo.
A local magistrate later directed that the police hand over the cattle to dairy farmers in the area as an early solution.
But as the story goes two cows returned back to the police station two days later covering a two kilometer trek from their adopted dairy farmer.
Police and residents believe that the two animals found it more comfortable at the police station premises where they were well fed and provided with water during their brief stay until the court decision.
Currently they are back at the police station until another decision could be taken.
