(COLOMBO) – At least 47 persons, mainly apparel factory workers were injured after the bus in which they were travelling was slammed in the back by another bus at Nagala in Bibile on Thursday, police said on Friday.
According to police the second bus was also transporting apparel workers when the incident took place some 369 kilometers from the commercial capital of Colombo.
Police said that initial investigations have revealed that the private-owned bus carrying the apparel workers had stopped at a halt to drop off passengers when the State run bus moving at excessive speed slammed into the bus from the behind.
A total of 47 passengers from both buses were injured and admitted to the regional Government hospital at Bibile.
The conditions of the passengers and crew of both buses were not life-threatening and many were being treated for minor injuries, hospital officials said.
