Balangoda – The presidential candidate of the ‘Sarvajana Balaya’ alliance, Dilith Jayaweera, has called for visionary and practical policy-making, criticizing the empty promises of traditional election manifestos. Speaking at a public rally held in Kirindigala, Balangoda, today (06), Jayaweera emphasized that only the ‘Sarvajana Balaya’ alliance can confidently claim to bring real change to the lives of the people after the election.
“In every presidential election, books of promises have been handed out, and some of the candidates who distributed them went on to win. But in reality, nothing substantial has ever come out of those books,” Jayaweera remarked. He lamented the lack of development in Sri Lanka, pointing out that the country remains stuck in what he referred to as “third world politics.”
Jayaweera further criticized the manifestos of other candidates, particularly highlighting National People’s Power (NPP) candidate Anura Kumara Dissanayake’s health policy. “It says every patient will get a bed. This is their entire health policy. I just took one example to show how shallow these promises are,” he said.
According to Jayaweera, a manifesto should present a vision, a coherent and logical approach, and explain how citizens’ lives will improve within the next five years. He expressed frustration over the continued stagnation, insisting that only his alliance offers a realistic path to progress.
“If anyone can stand on the presidential election stage and say that people’s lives will change without a doubt, it is only the ‘Sarvajana Balaya’ alliance,” Jayaweera declared confidently.
