Mrs. Chamari Perera, widow of the late Member of Parliament Sanath Nishantha, publicly endorsed Namal Rajapaksa at a political rally held at Kadayamotta Junction in Puttalam. Her support was voiced emphatically as she stated, “I will cast my vote for Namal Rajapaksa, who stands resolutely for the motherland.”
In her address, Mrs. Perera highlighted the historical significance of the upcoming presidential election, drawing parallels with past elections. She recounted Mahinda Rajapaksa’s achievements, particularly his role in ending the civil war and advancing national development. According to her, Rajapaksa’s presidency led to significant contributions to the country, which she believes are overshadowed by the promises made by current candidates.
Mrs. Perera criticized the proposals of other presidential candidates, specifically their support for the implementation of the 13th Amendment to the Constitution, which she opposes. She praised Namal Rajapaksa for his stance against the 13th Amendment, aligning with her views on the issue.
She also reflected on the past political landscape, stating that under various executive presidents, there was a lack of faith in governance. She attributed the current environment of confidence to Mahinda Rajapaksa’s leadership, which she believes set a foundation for national unity and development.
Mrs. Perera’s speech underscored her commitment to supporting the Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna and emphasized the continuity of the Rajapaksa legacy, promising to make sacrifices to protect their political camp and ensure their success in the upcoming election.
