The Galkissa Magistrate’s Court has issued an arrest warrant for Wasantha Samarasinghe, a National Executive Member of the National People’s Movement and former Member of Parliament, along with other suspects involved in a significant fraud case. The court’s decision follows a B report submitted by the Colombo Fraud Investigation Division, which details a scheme involving 36 million rupees.
The complaint alleges that Samarasinghe and his co-conspirators prepared a fraudulent tax deed and unlawfully leased property connected to a trade union. Alongside Samarasinghe, suspects Mahinda Jayasinghe and Amaali Kalupahana have also been ordered to appear in court.
The case has drawn considerable attention due to the high-profile nature of the individuals involved and the substantial sum of money implicated in the fraudulent activities.
