Balangoda, September 6, 2024 — Dilith Jayaweera, the Sarvajana presidential candidate, addressed a crowd in Balangoda yesterday, reiterating his commitment to a strategic national development plan. Speaking at a ‘Dilith Village’ constituency meeting, Jayaweera emphasized that his foray into politics was driven by a desire to help Sri Lanka rather than any personal ambitions.
“There has been talk about the so-called ‘curse’ of 1977,” Jayaweera remarked, “but this curse began after that year, not before. The real issue lies in our lack of a coherent, long-term strategy for national development. After independence, our country needed a universal, enduring plan to harness our resources and potential effectively.”
Jayaweera, who has a background as an entrepreneur and tax-paying citizen, explained that his entry into politics was not a result of personal desire or aspirations. “I never planned to go into politics. I had faith that the leaders we supported would eventually drive the country forward, but when that did not happen, I decided to step in. I am here not for what I can gain but for what I can contribute,” he said.
His comments reflect a commitment to public service and a strategic approach to national development, distinguishing his candidacy in the current presidential race.
