Presidential candidate Sajith Premadasa, representing the National People’s Force, has pledged to introduce a separate village concept for plantation workers, aimed at addressing long-standing housing challenges faced by this community. He made these remarks at a public rally organized by the Tamil Progressive Alliance at the Talawakele Municipal Stadium.
In his speech, Premadasa outlined plans to establish factories targeting the youth in Nuwara Eliya district at the regional secretariat division level, offering new employment opportunities. He also addressed the current shortage of teachers in Watukara, promising to raise educational standards in the region.
Premadasa took a swipe at President Ranil Wickremesinghe, accusing him of planning to sell the historic Nuwara Eliya Post Office. He vowed that such plans would be halted if he wins the presidency.
Several leaders from the Tamil Progressive Alliance, including Mano Ganesan, Palani Digambaram, and V. Radhakrishnan, along with parliamentarians Nalin Bandara and Sujiva Serasinghe, were also present at the event, which saw a large turnout of supporters.
