Chamira Perera, President of the Sri Lanka Workers’ People’s Front, has accused presidential candidate Ranil Wickremesinghe of serving the interests of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) rather than those of the Sri Lankan people. Speaking at a gathering in Hatton, Perera claimed that Wickremesinghe’s primary goal as president is to protect the Rajapaksa family and their close associates, rather than addressing the needs of the country.
During the meeting, organized to rally support for National People’s Force (NPP) candidate Anura Kumara Dissanayake, Perera further criticized Wickremesinghe, labeling him as a representative of the IMF. He alleged that Wickremesinghe’s economic policies, particularly his tax reforms, are designed to channel the country’s revenue to the IMF, worsening Sri Lanka’s financial situation.
Perera was confident that on September 21, voters would elect Dissanayake as the next president, believing that he would prioritize addressing the issues facing plantation workers and broader segments of the population. He assured attendees that Dissanayake’s presidency would bring about solutions to longstanding problems, particularly those affecting marginalized communities.
The meeting also saw the participation of Manjula Suravirarachchi, the NPP’s Nuwara Eliya district organizer, who echoed support for Dissanayake’s vision for the country.
