September 9, 2024 – Colombo – National People’s Force leader Anura Kumara Dissanayake has addressed the controversy surrounding recent remarks made during his visit to Jaffna. The controversy erupted after President Ranil Wickremesinghe accused Dissanayake of making threatening statements towards the northern populace.
In response, Dissanayake has dismissed Wickremesinghe’s claims, stating that Tamil National Alliance (TNA) spokesman M.A. Sumanthiran has already clarified the situation effectively. Dissanayake contends that Wickremesinghe’s accusations are baseless and suggests that the President should issue an apology for attempting to incite racial tensions.
Dissanayake’s comments come in light of Wickremesinghe’s demand for him to apologize to the people of the North. Wickremesinghe had criticized Dissanayake for allegedly threatening the northern communities, prompting a sharp rebuke from the National People’s Force leader.
Sumanthiran has previously defended Dissanayake, asserting that the remarks were not made with racist intent and affirming Dissanayake’s commitment to combating racism in Sri Lanka.
