Tambuttegama, September 9, 2024 – Anura Kumara Dissanayake, the presidential candidate from the National People’s Force, has laid out his vision for the future of Sri Lanka, promising substantial support for local businesses and agricultural development. Speaking at a public rally in Tambuttegama, Dissanayake emphasized that his administration would focus on enhancing the prosperity of the people rather than extracting from it.
Dissanayake assured the crowd that his government aims to boost the resources and opportunities available to individuals. “We are not coming to take what you have. We are coming to increase what you have,” he said. He illustrated this commitment with examples, stating that if someone owns a cow, his administration will help them grow their herd. Similarly, for those cultivating an acre of land, the goal is to expand that to two or three acres, and for small shop owners, the ambition is to help them expand their businesses across several cities.
He critiqued the current government, suggesting that while existing officials may be mired in inefficiency and corruption, his team would focus on practical support for the people. “The commission is good if you bring in a crore of eggs, the minister will get tired of bringing in the sugar 350. They never thought to build, but we are ready to build petrol sheds,” Dissanayake remarked.
By promising to facilitate local production and support business ventures, Dissanayake is positioning his campaign as a transformative force dedicated to genuine economic and social development.
