Muthur, September 9, 2024 – Namal Rajapaksa, the presidential candidate for the Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP), reaffirmed his commitment to principled politics and highlighted the development programs his party has championed. Speaking at a public rally in Muthur, Rajapaksa reflected on past accomplishments and outlined his vision for future development.
Rajapaksa emphasized that his party remains steadfast in its principles, recalling the significant strides made during his father, President Mahinda Rajapaksa’s administration. He highlighted the transformative impact of their policies in the Trincomalee district, which was once beleaguered by LTTE terror. Under their leadership, the region was not only liberated but has since evolved into a pivotal naval and aviation center.
“At that time, President Mahinda Rajapaksa gave the people of the east the right to live,” Rajapaksa said. He noted that areas like Seruwaila are being developed, and Trincomalee is being positioned as a major tourist hub in the eastern province.
Rajapaksa outlined his party’s ongoing efforts to balance cultural preservation with modern development. “We had a plan to transform Trincomalee into a center that attracts tourists. We take the necessary policy decisions to build a future that young people aspire to while protecting our cultural heritage,” he added.
His remarks underscore a commitment to leveraging past successes as a foundation for continued growth and development, aiming to inspire confidence in his vision for Sri Lanka’s future.
