The Election Commission has filed a complaint against a teacher in Mullaitivu for sharing an image of a marked ballot paper on Facebook, according to Election Commissioner General Saman Sri Ratnayake.
Legal action is now being taken against the individual for this violation.
The incident occurred during postal voting, which took place from September 4 to 6, and saw over 80% voter turnout, according to Deputy Postmaster General Rajitha Ranasinghe.
The circulation of a marked ballot is considered an election offence under the law, which prohibits acts such as impersonation, defacing or destroying ballots, and displaying marked ballots.
Those found guilty face up to 2 years imprisonment and can lose their civil rights for seven years.
