COLOMBO, September 10, 2024 – National People’s Force (NPP) presidential candidate Anura Kumara Dissanayake announced today that if he wins the presidential election on September 21, he will take the oath of office without delay. Dissanayake vowed to act swiftly, promising to be sworn in as president immediately after his victory is confirmed.
Speaking at a presidential rally, Dissanayake also declared that he would dissolve Parliament as his first act in office. “There will be no delay. I will take the oath of office without even an hour’s hesitation, and Parliament will be dissolved immediately,” he told the crowd.
Dissanayake further emphasized that his focus will be on removing the current leadership from power. “I will temporarily send them home on September 22. After that, they will be permanently sent home by a mass vote,” he said, hinting at a potential general election to follow.
Dissanayake’s remarks underline his commitment to making bold changes to Sri Lanka’s political landscape, should he be elected. His pledge to dissolve Parliament indicates that he plans to restructure the current political framework and usher in a new era of governance.
