September 10, 2024 – Samagi Jana Balavega MP Harsha De Silva has criticized the National People’s Force (NPF) for their understanding of Sri Lanka’s debt restructuring process. During a recent rally in Mawathagamadi, De Silva expressed concern over what he described as a lack of basic knowledge about debt restructuring among the NPF’s economic team.
De Silva reported that international bondholders, who visited Sri Lanka last week and met with various political groups including the NPF, were surprised by the NPF’s grasp of the issue. He claimed that these bondholders found the NPF’s understanding of debt restructuring to be lacking.
He warned that if the NPF’s proposed alternative plan were to be implemented, it could lead the country into a worse financial situation than what was experienced in 2022. De Silva’s remarks underscore the ongoing debate and scrutiny surrounding the country’s economic management and future prospects.
