The business community in Sylhet has issued an ultimatum to the government, threatening protests if electricity supply is not restored within 48 hours. Business associations in Sylhet have jointly criticized the government for the financial losses incurred due to the frequent power failures.
The interim government is facing a major challenge in meeting the national grid’s electricity demand, particularly the 700 MW needed for Sylhet. Dr. Salehuddin Ahmed, the interim government’s commercial and financial advisor, has acknowledged that it will take time to resolve the electricity crisis. He indicated that the government is working to address the issue by importing fuel and coal to restore the power supply.
