Sarvajana candidate and entrepreneur Dilith Jayaweera criticized his competitors in the upcoming presidential election, stating that all the other three major candidates are offering the same political program, rooted in traditional politics. Speaking at the ‘Dilith Gamata’ public meeting in Nittambuwa on the 11th, Jayaweera laid out his vision for a clean break from the existing political system.
In his remarks, Jayaweera said, “Now, candidates have come forward for this year’s presidential election. Three or four of them are from traditional political parties. Others have come to support those political parties. They are here to destroy public funds and support those who represent corrupt politics. They have presented three identical political programs, disguised as something new.”
Jayaweera confidently projected that the election results, expected on the 23rd, would be transformative. “On the morning of the 21st, with the second preference votes counted by the 23rd, if you wake up and don’t see the ‘star’ shining in the sky, one thing is certain – the country will continue its downfall. But if you see the star shining, know that your life has changed from that day.”
He directly attacked the lavish political campaigns of his opponents, suggesting they are funded by questionable sources. “These politicians are spending over 100 million rupees per day, supported by smugglers and illicit money. This has only been possible because there is no proper data system or responsible government in place.”
Jayaweera further emphasized that his own candidacy is different, claiming he did not enter politics for personal gain. “I am a person who has paid taxes on everything I’ve earned. I did not come to politics to make a profit. We must pull this country out of the third world and into the first world. The day when those who steal from this nation will lose their power is near.”
He concluded by urging voters to reject the lies of traditional politicians and their backers. “Let’s cast a vote this time so that we don’t fall for the same false promises. That vote is for the ‘star’—the symbol of hope and change for a brighter Sri Lanka.”
Jayaweera’s message was clear: only a decisive break from traditional politics could lead to the transformation Sri Lanka needs. He presented his candidacy as the vehicle for that change, calling on the public to reject corruption and move towards a first-world future under his leadership.
