National People’s Party (NPP) presidential candidate Anura Kumara Dissanayake has vowed to implement measures under his leadership to expand Sri Lanka’s economy and address the nation’s pressing issues. Speaking at a public rally in the Mahaiyawa area of Kandy, Dissanayake outlined his vision for a transformed and thriving economy.
“Our economy is trapped in a limited space,” Dissanayake remarked. “Why is it that those in power only focus on taking bribes? We will expand the economy far beyond its current state. This is like a rush—creating a great society that performs in all its sectors, leading to a major educational transformation. That’s the kind of country we need. Don’t you want such a country?”
He also took aim at his political rivals, implying that their promises lacked substance. “It’s like Sajith Premadasa—facing big threats with every step. If needed, I’ll show you how dangerous it is to leave things in their hands. Would you even send someone like that to a local council?” he quipped, before criticizing the government’s delayed action on crucial issues like agriculture.
“They claim they will raise salaries and provide fertilizer in September. But farmers needed that fertilizer back in February!” Dissanayake concluded, calling on the public to help him take over the country and put it back on the path to recovery.
